Make an entrance: 5 stairs that will impress

20 September 2018

These five stair ideas for your entryway have been designed to make an impact from the moment you and your guests enter your home.

Many of our customers choose to situate their beautiful feature staircase right in the entrance of their home, and for good reason.  Stairs are often one of the most commented on features in a home, so it makes sense to put them where they can be admired by everyone!

We picked five of our favourite stairs that combine with other features like lighting, doors and beautiful colour schemes, to create a stunning entryway to your home.

  1. RED DOOR, DARK FLOOR, FEATURE STAIR

Here, a feature red door opens up to showcase dark timber floors and a matching staircase.  Glass balustrades and LED lighting on the underside of the treads have also been used to create a beautiful staircase that is an artwork in itself.  From the outside, the stair can also be viewed through the large window.

  1. A JEWELLERY STORE WITH A GOLDEN STAIRCASE

When you have a luxury jewellery store selling custom made pieces to discerning customers, you don't want to skimp on your showroom.  The Village Goldsmith in Wellington shows how it's done with a gold painted staircase, using a curved floating steel structure, beautifully textured timber treads and a luxurious curved glass balustrade.  They've situated it next to a floor to ceiling living wall in the entrance of their showroom so that it sets a tone of luxury from the moment customers enter.

  1. A STAIR IN THE LAP OF LUXURY

When you have a large entrance hall with glossy black double doors, you don't want to hide your stairwell in a corner.  These Christchurch homeowners haven't - they've put it right in the middle of the hall, and it's size and elegance of materials means it makes an awesome impression.  Thick, luxurious red carpet runs up the middle and traditional balustrades add an air of old school elegance.  Along with vintage style checkered flooring and light coloured walls this is a stair made to be remembered.

  1. STUNNING CENTREPIECE IN THE CAPITAL

Contemporary can sometimes feel cold and uninviting - but not in this project.  Here, a cool concrete block wall and flooring combines with warm timber stairs to create a beautiful feature staircase.  Along with the large window opposite and the glimpse into the living areas, guests know the moment they arrive that this house is going to be something special - and it is.  LED lighting on the underside of the treads and a David Trubridge light hanging above the stairwell mean that the entranceway is a wonder by both day and night.

  1. A STAIR THAT REMINDS US OF RAINFALL (IN A GOOD WAY)

Light coloured American Ash timber is one of our most popular choices and you can see why in this stunning staircase.  It pairs well with almost anything - including the polished concrete floors of this contemporary Auckland home.  The slat screen balustrade is light and delicate and reminds us of gently falling rain in the best possible way.  The steel feature door and artwork at the end of the hallway add further features which help to make this entranceway a delight.
